Jenny Haliski and friends

This photo from Jenny Haliski was taken backstage in Washington D.C. on October 6, 2001 at Constitution Hall.

Pictured (from left to right) are Nicola DeBolt, Cecilea Clayton, Tori Amos, Lauri Blouke Kain, and Jenny Haliski after the Saturday, October 6, 2001 Washington, DC concert. The four of us have been best friends for a decade since we met in junior high school in Portland, Oregon, and it has always been our dream to meet Tori. Her music is the soundtrack to our friendships. That dream came true when Jenny's Washington, DC firm, the Advisory Board Company, gave a $6,000 merit grant to RAINN under Jenny's sponsorship, and RAINN gave Jenny four backstage passes. We gave Tori a framed collage of photos of us over the years at times when her music has played an important role, and a letter explaining the gift and describing what she means to us. For example, Lauri walked down the aisle at her wedding to "Horses," Cecilea drew strength from Tori's lyrics during her pregnancy and the 1998 birth of her son, Joshua, and Nicola and Jenny volunteered at the Washington, DC "Happy Birthday Tori" party to benefit RAINN. We also brought picture frame mats with us for Tori to sign so that we could use them to frame an enlarged reprint of our photo with her. When we showed the gift to Tori, she said, "I'll treasure it always." Cecilea thanked Tori for playing "Playboy Mommy," a favorite from her pregnancy. Speaking of the spirit of her unborn child for whom the song was written, Tori responded, "When she comes, she comes." Tori said "Thank you for making me a part of your group" and initiated a group hug with us! We were all very moved by our experience meeting Tori, especially how friendly and sincere Tori is. That night was a dream come true for us, and a memory that we will treasure forever.
