Mike got alerted last night at 2 AM for his fourth trip into Iraq. He says they normally stop in Kuwait prior to jumping into the "HotZone"
Jerry, you're right on, it's 40 degrees of flaps, steep glideslope, lights out and full armor on the approach.
Told us about several patients he's bringing out. A new twist to the IEDs; now they are putting gels and combustibles into the explosive devices so that our guys are getting burned too...same idea as Napalm.
Told us about a Navy Corpsman he treated...driving in a vehicle, you put your 9mm in your lap pointed toward the door...if you are attacked, you simply pick it up and shoot...i.e., you are ready. When the IED went off under the vehicle, the blast came up under him and propelled the 9mm up into his head...he'll make it but it will take lots of repair.
Here with Mike in Landstuhl after a great night at Strasbourg. We drove through the Alsace in Southwest France yesterday, went to a fabulous castle up on a mountain top (vosages) and then had the best room at the Strasbourg Hilton. I think that made the trip for Dad, as we had two bedrooms and three bathrooms!!!! We also had the best dinner of the trip there... I had penne pasta with a cream sauce (not at all heavy) with smoked salmon and parsley!!!!!! And our wine was only like $11. It was great, our waitress was from Romania, and Dad thought she was from England.
